Volkswagen is bringing back the Golf R to the United States and discontinuing the standard Golf model. Though we’ll miss the regular Golf, the Golf R gives us more than enough to look forward to.

All New

The 2022 Volkswagen Golf R is the first of the third Golf R generation. The last time the United States saw a new Golf R was the 2019 model, and now this hot hatchback has more to offer than ever. The exterior employs an understated charm that gives the Golf R a more versatile personality. However, the quad-tip exhaust on either side of a rear diffuser and the high spoiler are dead giveaways, showing everyone what the Golf R is really made of.

Great Power

The Golf R and Golf GTI are what remains of the Golf name in the United States. The GTI is an already powerful model with 242 horsepower under its hood, but the Golf R takes things up a notch. The 2022 Golf R is outfitted with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that pumps out an impressive 315 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. It will also feature a torque-vectoring all-wheel-drive system that enhances your grip on the road. To prove its performance personality, this drivetrain also comes with Drift Mode.
