Volkswagen enthusiasts hoping to learn more about the highly anticipated Tiguan R finally have some answers about this exciting addition to the German automaker’s lineup. Making its debut in late 2020 or early 2021, the Tiguan R will sit above the T-Roc R in Volkswagen’s ever-growing SUV portfolio. Spies recently spotted a prototype of the vehicle undergoing assessment in Germany. Here’s an overview of what we know so far about the powerful Tiguan R.

Exterior

On the outside, the Tiguan R gets its good looks from the sporty R-Line edition of the SUV. From the front bumper to the rear valance and large spoiler, the only big difference is the quad-exhaust tips that boast a similar style as the T-Roc R and Golf R. The Tiguan R will likely include uprated performance brakes, adaptive suspension, and a choice of alloy wheels.

Power

Expect to see a more advanced version of Volkswagen’s turbocharged 2.0-liter gasoline engine powering the Tiguan R. Paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission that sends power to all four wheels, the Tiguan R will pack a punch, ramping up from 0 to 62 miles per hour in about six seconds.

Interior

A look inside the Tiguan R reveals a similar design as the Tiguan R-Line. Standard features include a sports steering wheel, leather-trimmed sports seats, panoramic sunroof, eight-inch infotainment screen, digital instrument cluster, and premium audio system.

With excitement brewing about the Tiguan R, auto enthusiasts want to hear more about the latest addition to the Volkswagen lineup. What we know so far is that the powerful Tiguan R is in a league of its own.
