Just like any metropolitan area, the highways around Houston can get busy, and if there is an accident on the highway, traffic can sometimes come to a stop. Here are some tips for beating the traffic in Houston so you arrive on time.

  1. Use Waze

Waze is a great app you can put on your phone that will provide you with the best route to your destination. It will reroute you if there is slow traffic down the road, and if you plan ahead, you can look at other possible routes and estimate their different drive times. Use Waze to help determine the best time to leave, and always add some extra time in case you run into any problems along the way.

  1. Plan Lots of Extra Time

Houston is huge. It covers over 8,700 square miles, so you need to leave extra time to get to your destination. If you already have an idea of how long it will take you to get where you’re going, add at least half an hour to your drive time to be safe. Also, keep in mind that GPS drive times do not account for sitting at traffic lights, and Houston’s side streets have lots of them. Leave extra time for red lights.

The traffic in Houston can be tricky, but remember that even though drivers might be impatient and aggressive, but they are also friendly. You can still count on Southern hospitality to rule the Houston roads.
