Fall is coming, which means the temperatures will cool down a little in the Houston area, making it the perfect time of year for getting outside for a hike. Houston has some beautiful places for hiking with scenic landscapes to take in along the way. Get outside this fall and see for yourself.

Brazos Bend State Park

Brazos Bend State Park sits southwest of Houston and has 37 miles of hiking trails. For a nice 4-mile hike, start at the Pilant Slough Trail and take it to the Elm Lake Trail and then the 40 Acre Lake Trails that take you around two of the lakes in the park. You’ll pass by three different observation decks if you take this route, and are almost sure to see some alligators.

Houston Arboretum Ravine Trail

The Houston Arboretum & Nature Center now has the Ravine Trail that takes you through a riparian ecosystem and across a bridge that goes over a ravine. The Arboretum will start offering guided nature hikes again in the fall. Take advantage of these to explore the ecosystem, learn about the wildlife that lives in the area, and find out more about the history of the nature center.

Brazoria National Wildlife Refuge

Head to this nature reserve to explore miles of trails that wind through the over 44,000 acres. You can explore forests, freshwater marshes, ponds, and more. The Big Slough trail and Middle Bayou are both trails worth exploring.

Take a hike in one of these Houston area parks and enjoy the outdoors and fresh air for the day.
